Maheshtala, 11 June (H.S.): Once again two communities clashed over setting up a shop in Maheshtala. Many houses were vandalized in the area. A bike was set on fire in front of Ravindranagar police station. The mob pelted stones at the police. Many people were injured. RAF was deployed to control the situation.
On Wednesday morning, a dispute started over setting up a fruit shop in Akra Santoshpur area. First there was an altercation. Later it turned into a fight. A ruckus started between the two groups. Heavy vandalism started in the area. Stones were thrown from the roofs of many houses. On information, a large number of police forces reached the spot. ADG South Bengal, DIG Presidency Range and other police officers reached the spot. The frenzied mob pelted bricks and stones at the police. A bike was also set on fire in the area adjacent to Ravindranagar police station. Police vehicle was also vandalized. RAF personnel were deployed to control the situation. Tear gas shells were also fired. Mild lathicharge was also done. However, despite this, the situation has not been completely under control. A woman police officer was injured in the incident. She has been admitted to the hospital in serious condition. Local people are terrified due to the incident. Moreover, media personnel were also attacked.
