Four-day mango fair in Maldah

Maldah, 11 June (H.S.)

Maldah district administration is organizing a four-day mango fair from June 19 to 22, 2025, at Maldah College Ground, showcasing hundreds of mango varieties, including popular ones like Langra, Himsagar, Laxmanbhog, Amrapali, and Mallika, as well as nearly extinct varieties such as Ashudagi, Batasi, Dudhiya, and Phuniya. Mango farmers from Maldah and neighboring districts like Murshidabad, North and South Dinajpur, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Bankura, and Purulia will participate. Visitors can see and purchase mangoes, along with mango-based products like pickles, sattu, sweets, curd, and pies. The fair, open from 1 PM to 10 PM daily with free entry, aims to attract crowds as in previous years. Historically, Maldah produced 361 mango varieties, now reduced to 243, with endangered varieties cultivated on just 400 hectares compared to 1,200 hectares previously. The administration plans to highlight these rare varieties and educate attendees on their preservation.
