A 19-year-old youth, Surya, was re-arrested by the Mylapore police in Chennai for allegedly issuing death threats to a complainant in an earlier case, pressuring him to withdraw the complaint. Surya, who was out on bail for a waylaying case, had previously been arrested in April for threatening a youth with a knife and robbing him of his valuables. The victim's uncle, Diwakar, had filed a police complaint against Surya in the earlier case. However, after being released on bail, Surya approached Diwakar's family and asked them to withdraw the case. When Diwakar refused, Surya confronted him, verbally abused him, and allegedly pulled out a knife, issuing death threats to force Diwakar to withdraw the complaint. Based on Diwakar's latest complaint, the Mylapore police arrested Surya again and seized a knife from him. The police investigation revealed that Surya already faces five criminal cases, including robbery. This re-arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the Chennai police to ensure that individuals who attempt to intimidate or harm witnesses or complainants face the consequences of their actions.
