Bongaigaon (Assam), 10 June (HS): All Assam Students Union (AASU) celebrated its central session Sandhi Diwas at Tulungia in Bongaigaon district on Tuesday. On this occasion, AASU president Utpal Sharma hoisted the flag of the organization and addressed the media on the major issues of the state.
Taking a tough stand on illegal immigrants, he said, Not a single illegal foreigner will be allowed to stay in Assam. Every one should be identified and expelled from the country.
Sharma stressed the need to make the India-Bangladesh border as strict and secure as the India-Pakistan border. He alleged that not only illegal immigrants but also radical and jihadi elements are entering the state through this loose border.
He reiterated AASU's long-standing demand - an error-free and updated NRC - and called it necessary for the security and cultural identity of the state.
Reacting to the recent incidents of beef in some parts of the state, Sharma said that these incidents are a conspiracy of forces that want to divide the society. He appealed to the administration to take strict action against such anti-social elements and punish them.
AASU's Sattra Sandhi Diwas symbolizes the organization's association with various Sattras (Vaishnav monasteries) and reflects its participation in the cultural and socio-political activities of Assam.
