Lucknow, 6 Dec (HS): On
the occasion of B R Ambedkar's 69th birth anniversary, Uttar Pradesh Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath stated on Saturday that the architect of the Indian
Constitution once said that comments made by a person born on Indian soil,
consumes its facilities, but considers India's soil to be unholy can never be
in the interest of Indians.
Adityanath was likely alluding to Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar, a key player in
the Khilafat movement who was buried in Jerusalem in 1931 at his own request.
Addressing a 'Mahaparinirvaan Diwas' (death anniversary) event here,
Adityanath stated that Babasaheb Ambedkar made us aware of the hazards of the
time. Remember that while sitting as President of the Congress in 1923, a
famous statesman declined to sing Vande Mataram. When his last moments
approached, he expressed a wish to die in Jerusalem. Babasaheb Ambedkar stated
at the time that 'a person who is born on Indian soil, has experienced its
benefits, and still believes India's land to be unholy; his opinions can never
be in the interest of Indians'.
Mohammad Ali Jauhar presided over the Congress' Kakinada session in 1923. Adityanath
went on to say that individuals who advocate appeasement not only destroy India
but also humiliate Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. Adityanath added that part of
their attempt includes depriving the countrymen of various privileges.
