Bankura, 6 December (H.S.): The bodies of a couple were recovered on Saturday morning from Ashurali village under Joypur police station area in Bankura district. According to local sources, when the couple did not open the door despite repeated calls, worried neighbors broke down the door and entered the house. They were shocked by what they saw inside. The wife was lying on the floor in a pool of blood, and the husband was found hanging.
The police identified the deceased couple as Alok Mandal and Mukta Mandal. The police from Joypur police station recovered both bodies and have started an investigation into the incident.
As per information, after the marriages of their two daughters, farmer Alok Mandal and his wife Mukta lived in an asbestos-roofed house in Ashurali village. Alok was mentally ill and had been undergoing treatment for several days.
On Friday night, the couple went to sleep in their room. On Saturday morning, when the door remained closed for a long time, the neighbors became suspicious. After receiving no response despite repeated calls, the neighbors broke down the door.
Inside, they found Mukta Mandal's body lying on the floor of the room, and a blood-stained vegetable cutting knife (pahusul) nearby. Seeing multiple injuries on Mukta's forehead and head, everyone realized that she had been murdered.
The neighbors then found Alok's body hanging near the attic stairs.
Family members and neighbors speculate that Alok, who was mentally ill, may have been taunted by his wife regarding work, after which, in a fit of rage, he killed her with the knife. Overwhelmed by guilt, he then committed suicide.
The police inspected the crime scene and took possession of both bodies. They said that the bodies would be sent to Bishnupur District Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the actual cause of death. Currently, the police have registered a case of unnatural death and have begun an investigation.
