Guwahati, 30 December (HS):

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam launched a sharp attack on the Congress on Tuesday, alleging that the party’s politics in Assam has been confined to just 22 minority-dominated assambly seats, while it has shown little interest in contesting the remaining 104 Hindu-majority constituencies, effectively leaving them open for the BJP.

Aminul Islam said that voters in minority-dominated areas would now back AIUDF leaders to ensure a stronger and more effective role for the opposition. He alleged that the Congress has completely failed to emerge as a credible statewide alternative and has restricted its political strategy only to minority-dominated seats.

The AIUDF MLA further said that due to this approach of the Congress, public support has naturally shifted towards the AIUDF. He claimed that people have now realised that the Congress is no longer capable of being an effective voice for minorities, which is why the AIUDF is receiving wider support. Aminul Islam made these remarks while speaking to reporters after attending a programme today.---------
