Kolkata, 22 December (H.S.) :
Amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress has decided to hold a major political rally at the end of the year. Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to address a public meeting on December 30 at the Barjora College ground in Bankura district.
According to a senior Trinamool Congress leader, if the programme proceeds as planned, this will be the last major political rally of the year for the party. However, it is not yet clear whether the Chief Minister will attend any administrative meetings during the visit.
The proposed rally has generated considerable enthusiasm within the Bankura district unit of the Trinamool Congress. District leaders said preparations are already underway, and an important organisational meeting is scheduled to be held on Monday to finalise arrangements. The party has set its sights on mobilising a massive turnout for the event.
Barjora falls under the Bishnupur Lok Sabha constituency, where the Trinamool Congress suffered a narrow defeat in the last general election, losing by a margin of around 5,000 votes. The seat was won by BJP leader Soumitra Khan. With the Assembly elections approaching, the state leadership is keen on strengthening the organisation across all Assembly segments under the Bishnupur Lok Sabha area.
Meanwhile, January 1 marks the foundation day of the Trinamool Congress. With the Assembly polls drawing closer, the political significance of the occasion has increased considerably this year. A senior party leader said the Barjora rally could serve as a platform for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to clearly outline the party’s political message and strategy for the upcoming electoral battle.
