Bengal continued to experience cold weather on Saturday, despite a slight rise in temperatures across Kolkata and southern districts. According to the Meteorological Department, Kolkata’s chill is now comparable to northern districts such as Cooch Behar and Kalimpong. Morning fog warnings were also issued for several areas.
In South Bengal, the lowest temperature on Saturday was recorded in Shriniketan, Birbhum, at 11.5 degrees Celsius. Other areas reported minimum temperatures as follows: Dumdum and Diamond Harbour at 14.8 degrees, Medinipur at 13.3 degrees, Krishnanagar at 13.2 degrees, Digha at 13.9 degrees, and Bankura at 12.4 degrees Celsius. Baharampur and Kanthi recorded 12 degrees, Canning 12.6 degrees, and Bardhaman 13 degrees Celsius. Barrackpore and Purulia saw 13.4 degrees, Asansol 13.2 degrees, and Panagarh 13.1 degrees Celsius.
In North Bengal, the cold was more pronounced. Raiganj recorded a minimum of 11.5 degrees Celsius, Alipurduar 10 degrees, and Jalpaiguri 10.8 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department indicated that no major temperature fluctuations are expected in either North or South Bengal over the next seven days.
In Kolkata, Friday’s minimum temperature was 14.8 degrees Celsius, which rose slightly to 15.4 degrees on Saturday, still 0.7 degrees below normal. The maximum temperature on Friday was 24.9 degrees Celsius, 2.1 degrees below the average.
The weather department forecasts clear skies and dry conditions for the coming days in Kolkata and surrounding areas. Light to moderate fog may occur in the early mornings, but no significant disruptions are expected.
Overall, the cold weather across Bengal remains stable. While minor fluctuations in temperature are being observed, there are no indications of severe cold spells or sudden weather changes.
