Imphal, 13 December (HS): Security forces have intensified search operations and area dominance exercises in fringe and vulnerable pockets across Manipur, leading to the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition in Churachandpur district, officials informed on Saturday.

Police officials said that during an operation conducted on December 12, Manipur Police recovered multiple weapons and war-like stores from the Khuga Dam area under Churachandpur Police Station. The seized items include a locally made .303 rifle, pistol magazines, ammunition of various calibres and an improvised mortar.

The recovery also comprised explosive materials and tactical equipment, including improvised explosive devices, a 51 mm mortar smoke bomb, a stun grenade, wireless communication sets, helmets, cartridge belts, ammunition clips and a tactical belt fitted with magazine and pistol pouches.

According to authorities, such coordinated operations are being carried out to prevent unlawful activities and to restore peace and security in sensitive areas of the state. Further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended use of the recovered items.
