Panaji, December 13 (H.S.): Authorities have sealed at least two prominent nightclubs in Vagator as part of a statewide crackdown following the death of 25 people in a devastating fire at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub on December 6, officials said.
Cafe CO2 Goa, a well-known nightclub located on a cliff overlooking the Arabian Sea at Vagator beach in North Goa, was sealed on Saturday. The action came two days after Goya Club, also situated in Vagator, was shut down for alleged violations of safety norms.
According to officials, an inspection of Cafe CO2 Goa at Ozrant Cliff by a state government-appointed team revealed that the establishment, which has a seating capacity of around 250 people, did not possess a mandatory no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Fire and Emergency Services Department.
The inspections are part of intensified checks being carried out across Goa to ensure compliance with fire safety and licensing norms in nightlife establishments, following the recent tragedy that raised serious concerns over public safety.
