FDA seizes spurious drugs worth Rs 2.75 lakh from Pune, wider racket suspected


Mumbai, 13 Dec (HS): Maharashtra Food and Drug

Administration (FDA) raided Akshay Pharma in Sadashivpeth in Pune and seized spurious

drugs worth Rs 2.75 lakh. Vishrambag Police have registered cases against eight

people.

FDA Joint Commissioner Girish Hukare informed on

Saturday that the raid was carried out based on intelligence information. A

spurious drug Tipsin manufactured by Tairent Pharmaceuticals in Sikkim and marketed

in Pune. FDA Inspector had collected a sample from Akshay Pharma on October 16

for analysis. Akshay Pharma had purchased the drugs from two sources. FDA then

enquired about Mahiwal Medico Plant, in Bihar, which is closed and its licence

expired on November 20, 2024. Tairent Pharma informed the FDA that the medicine

in the case was not manufactured by it. FDA is investigating wider connection

of the spurious drugs racket.

The names of the accused were given as Akshay Hasmukh

Punia, Amrit Bansimal Jain, Manish Amrit Jain, Rohit Papat Navadkar, Devendra

Yadav, Umang Abhay Rastogi, Mahesh Garg, and Soni Mahiwal.
