At least 13 passengers were injured on Saturday morning after a passenger bus overturned following a high-speed mishap in the Bhatmod area under the Shalbani police station limits in West Medinipur district of West Bengal. According to local sources, the condition of several injured passengers is stated to be serious.

Eyewitnesses said the bus was travelling at an excessive speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and overturn. The accident led to panic and chaos at the spot, with passengers trapped inside the vehicle.

Local residents rushed to the scene and immediately initiated rescue operations. They helped in pulling out the injured passengers and arranging transportation for medical assistance.

On receiving information, police from the Pirakata police station reached the spot and coordinated the rescue efforts. With the help of ambulances and local toto vehicles, all the injured were shifted to Medinipur Medical College and Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Further details are awaited.
