Hooghly, 12 December (H.S.): The body of an elderly man undergoing treatment at the Uttarpara State General Hospital in Hooghly district was found hanging from a noose in the hospital premises on Friday. The incident caused a stir in the hospital and spread panic among the patients.

According to the police and hospital sources, the deceased has been identified as Narendranath Bhuiyan, a resident of the Uttarpara Chaklen area. The elderly man had been suffering from breathing problems for several days. He had recently been diagnosed with tuberculosis. A few days ago, he was admitted to Uttarpara State General Hospital for treatment of multiple ailments, where he was undergoing treatment.

On Friday morning, hospital staff first noticed Narendranath lying with a noose around his neck made of something resembling a towel. Doctors immediately arrived and examined him and declared him dead. However, the cause of the elderly man's death remains a mystery. The hospital administration has not yet commented on the matter.

Many questions are being raised about the elderly man's 'suicide' during treatment. If Narendranath committed suicide, questions have been raised about how such an incident could have occurred in the presence of doctors, nursing staff, other hospital staff, and patients.

Families of patients are raising questions about patient safety. Gautam Roy, a relative of one patient, said, How could such an incident have occurred inside the hospital? An investigation should be conducted. There are so many CCTV cameras, yet this incident is shocking.

Camelia Sarkar, a relative of another patient, said, If the elderly man committed suicide, it would have taken some time. Why didn't anyone notice? Surveillance should be increased.

The Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent have declined to comment on the matter.
