Kolkata, 11 December (H.S.) : The digitisation of forms and data under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal is nearly complete, with 57.52 lakh voters marked for deletion across multiple categories, according to preliminary scrutiny.
The updated list includes 24,14,750 deceased voters, 11,57,889 voters who could not be traced, 19,89,914 shifted voters, 1,35,627 identified as bogus, and 54,027 placed under the ‘others’ category.
The SIR exercise, which began on November 4 across 12 states and Union Territories, mandates that all enumeration forms be uploaded to the Election Commission of India’s portal by December 11. The draft electoral roll will be published on December 16, followed by the final roll on February 14, 2026.
Across the 12 regions, around five lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and over 12 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties are involved in the process. The Election Commission has emphasised that BLOs must hold booth-level meetings with BLAs to identify and rectify any preliminary errors in the draft rolls, ensuring that no eligible voter is excluded inadvertently.
In West Bengal, the lists of deceased, shifted, and missing voters will be handed over to the booth representatives of political parties. The Commission has directed Chief Electoral Officers to ensure that BLOs share these lists with BLAs and upload them on the EC website. The guidelines followed during the SIR exercise in Bihar will also be applied in this process.
The Commission maintains that strict scrutiny and transparency are essential to producing an accurate, error-free voters’ list ahead of the 2026 election cycle.
