Kolkata, 11 December (H.S.) : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday paid tribute to former President of India Pranab Mukherjee on his 90th birth anniversary, recalling his remarkable contribution to the nation.

Pranab Mukherjee was born in 1935 in Mirati village of Birbhum district. Over a political career spanning nearly five decades, he held several key positions in public life. He served as the President of India from 2012 to 2017 and was conferred the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour, in 2019. Mukherjee passed away on August 21, 2020.

Marking the occasion, Chief Minister Banerjee remembered the former President with deep respect and said the nation would forever cherish his service, wisdom and statesmanship.

Widely known for his mastery of the Constitution, parliamentary practices and administrative expertise, Pranab Mukherjee remains one of the most respected figures in Indian political history. Several social and cultural organisations across the state also paid homage to him on his birth anniversary.
