New Delhi, 09 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met India’s Commonwealth Games 2026 medallists in New Delhi and congratulated them on their impressive performances at the Glasgow Games.

India concluded its Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow with 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze, finishing fourth in the overall medal standings. The performance highlighted the growing strength of Indian athletes across multiple sporting disciplines.

During his interaction with the medallists, Prime Minister Modi praised their hard work, determination and commitment to representing the country on the international stage. He also emphasised the importance of providing athletes with sustained encouragement and support.

Modi called upon the people of India to continue cheering for athletes across sporting disciplines. He stressed the need to develop a stronger sporting culture that can inspire more young people to take up sports and pursue excellence at the national and international levels.

“Jo Khelega Woh Khilega” (Those who play will flourish) has been one of the Prime Minister’s recurring messages while advocating greater participation in sports. The phrase reflects his emphasis on encouraging young Indians to embrace sports and creating more opportunities for emerging athletes.

India’s performance at the Glasgow Games featured strong results across several disciplines, with athletes making their mark in sports including boxing, weightlifting, judo, athletics and para-athletics.
