Kolkata, 04 August (H.S.): Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday delivered a virtual message from her Kalighat residence, raising several issues including democratic rights, political matters and the respect due to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Banerjee alleged that a section of the media was working in a biased manner. She also claimed that thousands of cases had been filed against her party workers and common people and alleged that permission for political programmes was being denied selectively.

Speaking on the issue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, she said that Netaji was one of India’s greatest freedom fighters and respecting his legacy was the responsibility of every Indian. She appealed to students, youth and citizens to uphold Netaji’s ideals and democratic values.

The former Chief Minister also raised questions over the alleged misuse of investigative agencies, employment issues and government welfare schemes. She said that public welfare, employment and social security should remain the priority.

Emphasising the importance of unity and communal harmony, Banerjee said that her politics was not aimed at power or position but at serving the interests of the people. She concluded her address with slogans of “Jai Hind”, “Vande Mataram” and “Jai Netaji”.
