Guwahati,04 August (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday completed his self-enumeration for Census 2027 through the online Self Enumeration Portal at Lok Bhavan and appealed to the people of the state to actively participate in the nationwide census exercise.

Describing the self-enumeration process as simple, secure, transparent and user-friendly, the Governor said the digital facility allows citizens to complete the process within a few minutes while fulfilling their national responsibility. He noted that the online system helps create an accurate and reliable national database with greater convenience.

Highlighting the importance of the Census, Acharya said it serves as the foundation for effective governance, development planning and equitable delivery of public services. Accurate census data, he added, is essential for designing welfare schemes, ensuring balanced allocation of resources and framing evidence-based policies for inclusive and sustainable development.

The Governor urged all eligible residents of Assam to complete self-enumeration for themselves and their families by August 16, 2026. He also appealed to citizens to extend full cooperation to enumerators during the house-to-house enumeration scheduled from August 17 to September 15, 2026, by providing accurate and complete information.

Encouraging people to spread awareness, Acharya called upon residents to motivate their family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues to participate in Census 2027, saying that broad public participation would help ensure a comprehensive, accurate and error-free census. Director-cum-Chief Principal Census Officer Biswajit Pegu and other officials were present on the occasion.
