New Delhi, 01 August (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the 12th National Handloom Day celebrations at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre on August 7. According to the Ministry of Textiles, the nationally organised event aims to celebrate India's rich handloom heritage and honour the invaluable contribution of the country's weaving community to the nation's socio-economic development.

As part of the celebrations, four special commemorative postage stamps dedicated to India's diverse handloom traditions will be released. Two significant publications—Earth, Roots, Threads: All Dyed Handloom Textiles of Central India and Handloom Award Book 2025—will also be launched during the programme.

A total of 22 awards for outstanding craftsmanship and innovation for the year 2025 will be presented during the ceremony. These include three Sant Kabir Handloom Awards and 19 National Handloom Awards.

Visitors will have the opportunity to view a special exhibition showcasing award-winning handloom products. The event will also feature live demonstrations of traditional Kani weaving and Wall Hanging weaving, highlighting India's rich weaving traditions and artisanal excellence.

The programme will be attended by Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh, Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita, Textiles Secretary Neelam Shami Rao, Development Commissioner (Handlooms) Dr. M. Beena, along with senior government officials, distinguished personalities, and weavers from across the country.
