Guwahati, 09 July (HS): The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Thursday held a special review meeting at Rajiv Bhawan to assess the results of the recent Assembly elections. The meeting, chaired by APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, examined the performance of the party across Assembly segments under the Tezpur, Guwahati, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Nagaon and Darrang-Udalguri Lok Sabha constituencies based on reports submitted by district observers.

The meeting was attended by Congress central election observer Bandhu Tirkey, AICC Assam in-charge Manoj Chauhan, MP Rakibul Hussain, former Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia and several senior party leaders.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Gogoi criticised the BJP government over the renaming of a road dedicated to martyr Ratan Kachari in Dhekiajuli as Syama Prasad Mukherjee Path. He said the government was free to honour its ideological leaders by naming new roads or institutions after them, but replacing the name of a freedom fighter and son of Assam was inappropriate.

Gogoi further said the trend of changing the names of freedom fighters was not a positive sign for the state's future. He also asserted that despite the party's electoral setback, Congress leaders and workers remained determined to function as a strong opposition.

Targeting the BJP government, Gogoi alleged that it had become increasingly arrogant after its electoral victory, adding that the attitude of the ruling party was evident during the ongoing Budget Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly. He said the remaining Assembly segments would be reviewed in a separate meeting on Friday.-------------
