Goalpara (Assam), 06 July (HS): Five persons, including a groom, were arrested in Assam's Goalpara district after police foiled an alleged child marriage attempt in Dhupdhara on Sunday night.

The accused include the groom, his younger brother, the minor girl's father and two others. Police intervened after receiving information about the proposed marriage and prevented the ceremony.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. Authorities reiterated that strict legal action will continue against those involved in child marriage as part of the state's ongoing crackdown on the social evil.-----------
