Agartala, 04 July (HS): Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha on Saturday flagged off the Northeast's first Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train between Agartala and Karimganj, marking a major milestone in the modernization of rail services in the region.

The new MEMU service replaces the earlier Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) train following the electrification of the route. Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said the electric train will provide faster, cleaner and more energy-efficient transportation while reducing travel time and emissions.

Railway officials said the Agartala–Karimganj MEMU service is expected to benefit daily commuters, students, traders and tourists by improving connectivity between Tripura and Assam and promoting sustainable regional development.----------
