
Guwahati, 04 July (HS): Assam Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai on Saturday reviewed the GIS-based Comprehensive Drainage Master Plan for Guwahati and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Bahini-Bharalu Basin, with a focus on strengthening the city's drainage network and tackling chronic waterlogging.
The meeting, held at Janata Bhawan, assessed proposed stormwater management measures and technical recommendations aimed at improving drainage efficiency across the city. Officials stressed the need for practical, sustainable and effective interventions to enhance Guwahati's urban infrastructure.
Chairing the meeting, Rai directed consultants to revise and refine the Master Plan and DPR by incorporating the suggestions made during the review. He also called for a thorough re-examination of the revised proposals before final approval to ensure that no shortcomings remain.
The discussions highlighted the importance of an integrated and long-term strategy for urban flood management, with priority on improving resilience against heavy rainfall and ensuring timely implementation of key drainage projects. Senior officials from the Housing and Urban Affairs Department, Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, AUIDFCL, Public Works Department and Guwahati Municipal Corporation attended the meeting. Rai reiterated the government's commitment to reducing waterlogging and improving the quality of life for Guwahati residents.---------------
