Bhubaneswar, 27 July (H.S.): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik on Monday expressed deep grief over the demise of senior party leader and former minister Susanta Singh.
A prominent political figure from western Odisha, Singh represented the Bhatli Assembly constituency for three consecutive terms, winning elections in 2009, 2014, and 2019 on a BJD ticket. He, however, was defeated in the 2024 Assembly elections by BJP candidate Irasis Acharya.
During his political career, Singh held key portfolios in the Naveen Patnaik-led government, serving as Minister for Labour and Employment and later as Minister for Rural Development.
In his condolence message, Chief Minister Majhi said he was deeply saddened by Singh’s passing and extended his sympathies to the bereaved family. He also prayed to Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Former Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik also expressed profound sorrow, describing Singh as a skilled organiser and a popular leader. He noted that Singh’s contributions to strengthening the party and his dedicated service to the people would always be remembered. Patnaik conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and prayed for the departed soul’s peace.
According to sources, Singh’s mortal remains will be brought to the State Assembly premises to allow leaders and legislators to pay their last respects, before being taken to his native place for the final rites.
