Raigad, 27 July (HS): A huge boulder slides down on
road near Matheran in Raigad district. Matheran is a popular tourist place in
the region. Fortunately no one was passing through the road, when the boulder
collapsed. The boulder collapsed due to heavy rains removing the soil holding
the rock.
The traffic on the route was affected for some time,
which was restored by the local authorities by removing the boulder.
Landslides are common in Raigad district during
monsoon. The authorities have appealed to the people not to venture unnecessarily
on the road during night as a precautionary measure.
Demand for survey by experts and measures to install
mesh and rock bolting should be initiated to prevent such incidents in the
future.
