Kolkata, 24 July (H.S.) : The West Bengal government has initiated several projects to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Bandwan Assembly constituency of Purulia district, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay informed the Assembly during the Budget Session.

The minister said the government is implementing a phased plan to upgrade healthcare facilities in the constituency. Infrastructure development measures have already been initiated for the Barabazar, Bandwan and Bari Block Primary Health Centres (BPHCs).

He informed the House that a proposal to expand the Barabazar BPHC to 30 beds is currently under consideration by the Health Department.

Mukhopadhyay further said the Public Works Department (PWD) has prepared a cost estimate of Rs 17,40,043 for installing a 58.5 KVA generator to provide uninterrupted power backup at the Barabazar health centre. Based on this estimate, the Health Department is preparing a detailed project proposal.

The minister also stated that a proposal has been submitted for the construction of a Common Collection Point (CCP) for the scientific disposal of biomedical waste. The proposal has been sent to the District Council office for verification.

He added that similar initiatives are underway at the Bandwan and Bari Block Primary Health Centres, including arrangements for power backup and the establishment of biomedical waste collection facilities.

In addition, proposals have been received for the repair and renovation of the Sidri Primary Health Centre and Gurur Primary Health Centre in the constituency. The estimates for these projects have been prepared and are currently under departmental consideration.

The minister said the government's objective is to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in rural areas and ensure better and more accessible medical services for people living in remote regions.
