Guwahati, 24 July (HS): Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi came under sharp criticism from both ruling and opposition legislators on Friday over his remarks and conduct regarding the flood situation in Assam.

Leader of the Opposition Wajed Ali Choudhury and Congress MLA Nurul Huda termed Thursday's incident in the Assam Legislative Assembly as premeditated and accused Akhil Gogoi of politicising the flood crisis. The leaders where talking to media persons while coming to attend the ongoing Assam assembly session on Friday.

Congress MLA Jayaprakash Das said that instead of coming to the Assembly, Akhil Gogoi should have remained with the worst flood-affected people of Sivasagar. He should not indulge in politics at a time when his constituents are facing such a crisis, Das remarked.

Congress MLA Zakir Hussain Sikdar also criticised Gogoi, stating that if he had been the MLA from Sivasagar, he would not have attended the Assembly during the floods. He said this was not the time for political activities or creating confusion and urged leaders to focus on helping flood-affected people instead.

The remarks came amid an ongoing political row over the flood situation in Assam, with legislators from both the treasury and opposition benches accusing Akhil Gogoi of attempting to derive political mileage from the disaster.-----------
