Kolkata, 24 July (H.S.) : The West Bengal government is set to clarify its stand on the controversy surrounding the 'Sebaashray' medical camps, an initiative launched by Trinamool Congress National General Secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari scheduled to make an important statement in the State Assembly on Saturday.

The announcement was made by Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh during the Assembly proceedings on Friday. He said the Chief Minister would address the House on the alleged irregularities in the operation of the medical camps, triggering speculation about possible government action in the matter.

The controversy stems from a series of allegations regarding the functioning of the Sebaashray health camps. BJP leader Abhijit Das (Bobby) has submitted a written complaint alleging that X-ray and ultrasonography (USG) machines were used without obtaining the required approvals, licences and compliance with statutory medical regulations.

Following the complaint, Diamond Harbour Police conducted simultaneous inspections at several nursing homes in the Diamond Harbour and Budge Budge areas. The investigation is currently underway.

The BJP has also alleged that several doctors associated with the Sebaashray camps lacked the required medical qualifications. According to Abhijit Das, patients were allegedly subjected to improper treatment, and in some cases, the consequences were severe.

With Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expected to address the Assembly on Saturday, attention is now focused on the government's official position and whether any action will be initiated over the alleged irregularities. Political observers believe the Chief Minister's statement could provide greater clarity on the government's next course of action.
