Chandigarh, 23 July (H.S.): The Punjab Government has extended the deadline for students to obtain and update digitised birth certificates on the Unified Student Registration Portal for the 2026-27 academic session. Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the decision would provide major relief to students and parents facing difficulties in completing the digital registration process. The relaxation is intended to ensure that no student is denied admission or educational opportunities because of delays in obtaining the required documents.

Under the revised timeline, Class 8 students who do not yet possess digitised birth certificates have been given time until October 30, 2026, to obtain the documents and upload the details on the portal.

Students studying in Classes 9 and 10 have been allowed to complete the required corrections and updates until the registration process begins for the next academic session.

Bains said the decision reflected the state government’s commitment to introducing a transparent, efficient and paperless education system while remaining sensitive to the practical challenges faced by families.

He said the government was modernising school education through the Unified Student Registration Portal, but procedural difficulties would not be allowed to affect a child’s education.

The Education Minister also directed all school heads to coordinate closely with parents and help them complete the registration process within the extended deadlines.

He said the initiative formed part of the Punjab Government’s wider vision to use technology for improving governance while protecting the interests of students and ensuring that no child was left behind due to documentation-related hurdles.
