New Delhi, 23 July (H.S.): Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Thursday addressed the National Summit on ‘Safe Schools Leadership 2026’ held at the PHD Chamber House, stressing the need for a comprehensive and future-ready approach towards ensuring school safety and building resilience to face challenging situations.

The Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that, as stated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, education is not merely a means of livelihood but a powerful tool to improve the quality of life. He emphasised that the scope of school safety today extends far beyond physical infrastructure and includes cybersecurity, mental health, disaster preparedness, and the ability to respond effectively to unforeseen situations.

He said that being the national capital, Delhi has a special responsibility to set an example in creating a safe, inclusive and resilient learning environment for children.

The Lieutenant Governor also witnessed the launch of the ‘National Model School Safety Toolkit’, describing it as an important step towards institutionalising a culture of preparedness and prevention in schools. He said the launch holds special significance as Delhi is observing ‘Child Safety Month’ in July, during which several initiatives are being undertaken to strengthen the protection and well-being of children.

On the occasion, Taranjit Singh Sandhu also remembered his grandfather, Sardar Teja Singh Samundri, who established schools in rural areas such as Sarhali and Lyallpur more than a century ago. He said his grandfather believed that education was the foundation of a strong and aware society.

The Lieutenant Governor said that safe and empowering institutions play a crucial role in shaping the future, and this belief continues to inspire efforts towards building better educational environments.

He added that the objective is to create schools that are not only academically excellent but also safe, resilient and capable of supporting the overall development of every child.
