Guwahati, 23 July (HS): Assam Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai on Thursday reviewed the supply of relief materials, essential commodities and the price situation in major flood-affected districts of Upper Assam and North Assam through a video conference with district officials.

During the meeting, the Minister assessed the lifting and distribution of relief materials, availability of food grains, stock position and market prices. He directed all District Commissioners to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and timely distribution of relief materials to affected families.

Rai also instructed district administrations to remain on high alert and ensure that district-level task forces monitor market prices round the clock, taking immediate action against any unjustified price rise.

Reaffirming the state government's commitment to flood relief, the Minister said the Assam Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, is making every effort to ensure relief and essential services reach every affected household without delay.

Additional Chief Secretary Biswaranjan Samal directed officials to expedite the milling of the remaining procured paddy and hand over rice to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) at the earliest to prevent stock damage. He also stressed strict monitoring of essential commodity prices through coordinated efforts.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Department, FCI, AFDUCL, and District Commissioners of the affected districts.------------
