New Delhi, 23 July (H.S.): A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the Parliament march held on July 20. The matter was mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya on Thursday, with a request for an early hearing. The court has scheduled the hearing for July 24.
Advocate Barun Kumar Sinha, appearing for the petitioner, said the matter was related to what he described as a purported student movement. He alleged that the protest had brought large parts of Delhi to a standstill, with roads being blocked and residents facing inconvenience.
The court accepted the request and fixed the matter for hearing on July 24.
The petition was filed by Satish Kumar Agrawal, former vice-president of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha. It alleges that the Jantar Mantar protest was politically motivated and claimed that foreign forces were behind the demonstration.
The petition has sought that the investigation into the FIR registered by the Delhi Police in connection with the protest be transferred to the NIA.
