Guwahati, 17 July (HS): In a remarkable act of generosity, retired academic couple Dr. Pannalal Goswami and Dr. Nandita Bhattacharyya Goswami have donated ₹1 crore—their lifetime savings—to Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, sending a powerful message that the true value of wealth lies in giving back to society.
Dr. Pannalal Goswami, a retired professor of Cotton College and Dr. Nandita Bhattacharyya Goswami said the money was earned through years of hard work and felt it should ultimately serve the people. “Money had become a burden for us. By returning the people's wealth to the people, we have only lightened that burden,” Dr. Nandita said, adding that the couple has always believed in the philosophy of “Plain Living, High Thinking.”
Their selfless contribution has touched many, reflecting a rare example of integrity, humility and social responsibility. The couple's gesture is being hailed as an inspiration for future generations to use education and success for the greater good.
Dr. Pannalal Goswami also expressed pride in his former student, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying, “He was my student, and I am deeply proud of him.”
The extraordinary donation by the distinguished educators stands as a reminder that a life's greatest legacy is not what one accumulates, but what one gives back to society.-----------
