New Delhi, 17 July (H.S.): The Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed Anurag Kumar, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1994 AGMUT cadre, as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police.
According to an official order issued on Friday, his appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge and will remain in force until further orders. The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the incumbent Police Commissioner, Satish Golcha (1992 AGMUT cadre), will report to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for further assignment after handing over charge to the new Commissioner.
The appointment marks a significant administrative change at the helm of the Delhi Police. Anurag Kumar assumes responsibility for policing the national capital at a time when challenges such as cybercrime, organised crime, narcotics trafficking, women's safety and traffic management continue to grow.
The new Police Commissioner is expected to strengthen policing strategies and enhance law enforcement measures to address these emerging challenges effectively. Following the Ministry's order, preparations have begun at the Delhi Police Headquarters for the transition to the new leadership.
