Hooghly, 16 July (H.S.): Khanakul MLA Sushanta Ghosh on Thursday personally supervised drainage operations in Muchighata after continuous rainfall caused severe waterlogging, disrupting normal movement for local residents.
The MLA visited the affected area, interacted with residents to assess their problems, and instructed officials to ensure the immediate removal of stagnant water. He remained at the site to monitor the drainage work until the situation began to improve.
Speaking to the media, Ghosh alleged that the roads in the area were constructed below the natural ground level during the previous Trinamool Congress regime due to poor planning. He claimed that as a result, even moderate rainfall leads to waterlogging, causing recurring inconvenience to residents.
He assured the public that permanent measures would be taken to address the problem. According to the MLA, discussions will be held with the concerned departments to improve the drainage system and, if necessary, raise the road level to prevent similar situations during future monsoons.
Local residents welcomed the MLA's on-the-spot intervention and expressed hope that the long-standing waterlogging issue would finally receive a lasting solution.
