MOSCOW, July 13 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Warsaw has proposed that the United States set up a permanent military base in western Poland, Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk said on Monday.

In early June, Poland officially proposed to the US that a permanent military base be established on Polish territory.

We have selected two most likely locations for an American base. These are Greater Poland and Lower Silesia, Tomczyk said in an interview with RMF FM radio.

A final decision is yet to be made, the minister said, adding that another location may emerge.

Tomczyk explained that a US base in the west of Poland would be optimal for the forward deployment of NATO forces. Poland had for years invested in logistic processes at airports in the west in preparation for receiving military assistance from NATO, he said.
