BEIJING, July 13 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Swift restoration of safe and unimpeded passage through the Strait of Hormuz is in the interest of all parties, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a briefing on Monday.
Iran’s Persian Gulf Surveillance Agency (PGSA) said on Sunday that it would consider requests from ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz as soon as the situation in the region stabilizes.
The Strait of Hormuz is a strait for international navigation. Resuming safe and free passage in the Strait at an early date serves the interests of all sides, Lin Jian said in a comment on the PGSA's announcement.
He added that issues concerning shipping through the Strait of Hormuz must be resolved based on a proper settlement.
The shared concerns in the international community need a proper response. China stands ready to maintain communication on this with relevant countries and the international community, Lin said.
Since July 8, the United States has launched several rounds of attacks against Iran. US Central Command claimed these were in response to Iran’s interference in commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran responded with strikes on US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.
