Sydney, 13 July (H.S.): Acclaimed actor Sam Neill, best known for his memorable performances in Jurassic Park and Peaky Blinders, passed away on Monday at the age of 78. He breathed his last at St Vincent's Private Hospital, surrounded by members of his family.

Born Nigel John Dermot Neill on September 14, 1947, in Omagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Sam Neill developed a passion for acting during his years of higher education.

According to a statement released on Monday morning, and as reported by ABC News, Neill's death was confirmed by his family. His parents served in the military, and the family also owned a vineyard. When Neill was seven years old, the family relocated to New Zealand, where he spent most of his formative years. He made his film debut in 1981 with Omen III: The Final Conflict.

Neill rose to international fame with his portrayal of Dr. Alan Grant in Steven Spielberg's 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park. The science-fiction adventure film, based on Michael Crichton's 1990 novel of the same name, became a global phenomenon and established Neill as one of Hollywood's most recognizable actors.

The film followed a team of genetic scientists who created a wildlife park populated by resurrected dinosaurs. Neill's character, Dr. Alan Grant, was inspired by renowned paleontologist Jack Horner. He later reprised the iconic role in Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World Dominion.

Over a career spanning more than four decades, Sam Neill earned widespread acclaim for his versatility across film and television, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the global entertainment industry.
