Nagpur, 11 July (HS): Union Road Transport and

Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari appealed to the BRICS members Transport

Minister to cooperate for developing safe, and sustainable transport systems

keeping in mind the demands for the future. Innovative technology and

cooperation by BRIC countries can be a model for the entire world to follow.

The third meet of Transport Minister of BRIC

countered began in Nagpur on Saturday under the chairmanship of India. Gadkari

welcomed the minister and senior officers in the beginning and said cooperation

between growing economies for strengthening transport systems is an important

step. The theme for BRICS in India is ‘Flexibility, Innovation, Cooperation and

Stability’, which spells the feeling of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (The world as a

family).

Referring to development in the transport network in

India, Gadkari said that India is making fast progress in developing road,

rail, marine and air transport. The road network in second biggest iin the

world. He also mentioned about expressways and greenfield expressway projects

without affecting the ecosystem.

Electrification of broad gauge rail network is almost

completed. Vande Bharat services and projects like Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed

Rail Corridor and new Pamban Bridge in Riameshwaram are the examples of fast

development of rail network. Gadkari also referred to Maritime Amrit Kal Vision

2047, E-Navik, E-Samudra and Green Shipping projects for logistics improvement.

Electric buses, green urban mobility scheme and improvement

in regional air connectivity schemes under Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti National

Master Plan or improvement in logistics and passengers connectivity.

Continuous development and steps towards security are

the basic norms of the Transport Policy in India. Those injured in accidents

are given help immediately under PM Relief Scheme, recycled plastic, flyash,

steel, bamboo crash barrier and old used tyres are used in construction and

repair of roads.

He expressed hope for cooperation and support by BRICS

countries to reduce carbon emission, avoid traffic jams, ensure road safety and

develop connectivity from one to other end.
