New Delhi, 11 July (H.S.): A Delhi court on Saturday extended the judicial custody of 13 accused in the NEET paper leak case until July 24. The order was passed by Special Judge Satish Kumar at the Rouse Avenue Court.

The accused were produced before the court as their earlier period of judicial custody had expired.

An FIR in the case was registered on May 12 following a complaint filed by a government official. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the case under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Following allegations that the question paper for the NEET examination held on May 3 had been leaked, the examination was cancelled and re-conducted on June 21. The Central Government subsequently ordered a CBI investigation into the matter. So far, 13 accused have been arrested in connection with the alleged paper leak.

According to the investigation, Manisha Waghmare allegedly provided the NEET question papers to Dhananjay Lokhande, who subsequently passed them on to Shubham Khairwar.

On May 14, the court remanded five accused to seven days of CBI custody. Those sent to CBI custody included Shubham Khairnar of Nashik, Mangilal Biwal, Vikas Biwal and Dinesh Biwal of Jaipur, and Yash Yadav of Gurugram.

Shubham Khairnar was arrested in Mumbai on May 13 and was subsequently brought to Delhi on a two-day transit remand. He is a resident of Nashik in Maharashtra.
