Shanghai, June 7 (H.S.): The Consulate General of India in Shanghai observed World Environment Day with a special green initiative under the themes of 'Seva Ravivaar' and 'Green Office, Healthy Office'. Consul General Pratik Mathur hosted the event at the Consulate, bringing together members of the Indian diaspora and the local Chinese community.
Referring to International Children's Day, observed on June 1, the Consul General said the child-led community initiative was aimed at bringing together future generations from both communities, along with their parents and teachers. As a symbol of shared responsibility and growing friendship, each participating child dedicated a plant, reinforcing bonds of understanding and cooperation between the two cultures.
Highlighting the philosophy behind the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, which has grown into a global movement for environmental awareness, Mathur emphasized the need to adopt eco-friendly practices in everyday life. He urged youth and students to become agents of change in promoting a greener planet and to contribute towards a sustainable development pathway led by the Global South through partnership and Jan Bhaagidaari (people's participation).
The event reaffirmed the Consulate's commitment to environmental sustainability and people-to-people engagement, while underscoring the importance of community participation in building a greener and more harmonious future.
