Victoria(Seychelles)/NewDelhi, 29 June (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attended the National Day celebrations in the capital, Victoria, marking the 50th anniversary of Seychelles' independence. Prime Minister Modi said it was an honour to be part of the celebrations and extended his greetings to the people of Seychelles on the occasion of their Independence Day.

In a post on X earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi wrote, It is an honour to attend the National Day celebrations of Seychelles. This celebration marks the Golden Jubilee of Seychelles' independence. The occasion was a fitting tribute to the remarkable journey of the people of Seychelles over the past 50 years.

He further said, India is proud to stand alongside Seychelles as a trusted friend and development partner in its journey of progress. Our partnership continues to grow stronger, rooted in shared values and deep people-to-people ties. I am confident that our friendship will become even stronger in the years ahead.

Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the National Day celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Seychelles' independence as the Guest of Honour, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to receive this distinction.

Jaiswal added, An Indian marching contingent comprising personnel from the Indian Navy and the Indian Army participated in the ceremonial parade. An Indian Navy band was also part of the marching unit, reflecting the close and special partnership between India and Seychelles. As a special gesture, INS Tarkash and INS Ikshak were berthed at Port Victoria, symbolising the enduring friendship between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi conveyed India's greetings and best wishes to the people of Seychelles on this historic occasion.
