New Delhi, 28 June (H.S.): Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the Made in India label is far more than a mark printed on a product, describing it as a symbol of India's commitment to quality, excellence and national pride. He said quality is not merely a benchmark for business performance but also a responsibility towards the nation.
Speaking at a business session in London on June 27, Goyal highlighted the success story of Aqeel Ahmed Panaruna, founder of Florence Shoe Company in Ambur, Tamil Nadu. He said Indian entrepreneurs are strengthening the global image of Brand India by delivering world-class manufacturing and products that meet international standards.
Recalling an example during his address, Goyal said an international customer noticed a pair of luxury Hugo Boss shoes at Cairo International Airport. Upon checking the label, the customer found that the shoes had been manufactured in India at Florence Shoe Company in Ambur.
When a product carries the 'Made in India' label, it represents not just a company but the entire nation, Goyal said, adding that for entrepreneurs like Panaruna, maintaining quality is both a business standard and a responsibility linked to India's reputation and global credibility.
In a post on X, the minister praised Panaruna for taking Indian craftsmanship to some of the world's leading global brands while creating large-scale employment opportunities in rural areas. He also commended the entrepreneur for empowering women in the manufacturing sector and adopting environmentally sustainable technologies such as Zero Liquid Discharge.
Goyal further said he had an engaging interaction with members of the Indian diaspora and the business community in London. He noted that the Indian community serves as a vibrant bridge between India and the United Kingdom by strengthening economic, cultural and people-to-people ties.
The minister also highlighted the opportunities arising from the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which is scheduled to come into effect on July 15, 2026. He said the agreement would deepen cooperation in trade, investment and innovation, contributing to the shared prosperity of both countries.
Notably, Piyush Goyal was on a three-day official visit to the United Kingdom from June 25 to 27, during which he held discussions on the implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. Under the agreement, labour-intensive Indian products, including leather goods and footwear, will receive duty-free access to the UK market.
