TEHRAN, June 27 (HS/RIA Novosti) - US strikes on Iran constitute a clear violation of the memorandum of understanding, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemns the air attacks carried out by the terrorist US military against several sites on Iran’s southern coast on the evening of Friday, June 26, 2026. These brutal attacks targeting Iranian coast guard facilities constitute a gross violation ... of the UN Charter, as well as a clear violation of the first paragraph of the memorandum of understanding, the ministry said in a statement published on its official Telegram channel.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry added that the Islamic Republic carried out retaliatory strikes based on the country's inalienable right to self-defense.

The US Central Command on Friday confirmed strikes on Iran in response to an alleged attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. Later, the Iranian military launched strikes against several US military facilities in the Middle East.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on targets in Iran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Overnight into June 18, Iran and the US remotely signed a memorandum that provides for an end to the military conflict. The memorandum also sets a timeline for the US to lift its naval blockade and for Iran to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
