
Mumbai, 27 June (HS): Mumbai’s Byculla Police averted a major tragedy by arresting
an individual distribution poisonous capsules to participants of Moharram
procession. The capsules were being distributed as pain killers had rat-killer
poison. The incident came to light when some individuals started vomiting with
stomach ache.
In a
swift action police arrested one Faiyyaz Premji (39) who was distributing the
poisonous capsules. Premji is a resident of Vimannagar, Pune. Police recovered
14,900 capsules and 57 kg of Zinc Phosphide from his residence. The chemical is
used for killing rats. Police also seized 30,000 emptu capsules. He had purchased
the empty capsules through online transaction.
Investigation
into Premji’s motive behind the action is in progress and possibility of his
connection with international terrorism activities. Premji had travelled to
Iran and Iraq in 2025.
