Guwahati, 26 June (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state's maternal mortality rate has witnessed a remarkable decline, falling below the national average due to sustained investments in the healthcare sector, expanded medical services, improved maternal care, and greater public awareness.

In a social media post on Friday, the Chief Minister said maternal deaths in Assam have dropped dramatically from 480 to 84, describing the achievement as a landmark success for the state's healthcare system. He attributed the progress to continuous strengthening of health infrastructure and focused efforts to improve maternal health outcomes.

Dr. Sarma also attended the celebration marking the 110th anniversary of Shri Marwari Charitable Dispensary in Guwahati. Speaking on the occasion, he recalled the Marwari community's historic contributions to Assam in the fields of literature, culture, education, social service, healthcare and public welfare.

Congratulating the Marwari community on the 110-year journey of the Shri Marwari Charitable Dispensary and Marwari Hospital, the Chief Minister acknowledged their enduring role in expanding charitable healthcare services and contributing to the state's social development.-----------
