Mumbai, 24 June (HS): Maharashtra is on course to have the
lowest energy rates in the country by 2029-30. Addressing the state
legislature, Fadnavis laid out a defined strategy and progress on electricity
reforms. By 2029-30, industrial power is
expected to cost Rs. 7.38 per unit, a decrease from the present rate of Rs.
8.32.
By the end of the
decade, Maharashtra's rates will be lower than those of other states. To make
power affordable, MSEDCL implemented a phased rate reduction plan that included
decreases ranging from 4% to 26%. Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana aims
to significantly increase the use of renewable energy. Smart meter penetration
on feeders is 100%, and Time-of-Day (ToD) rates are being used to deliver
savings directly to consumers and companies. By implementing effective power
procurement and Merit Order Dispatch, the state reduces the cost of obtaining
electricity from private players.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “By 2029-30,
Maharashtra’s electricity tariff will be the lowest in the country. A record 10
lakh farmers have adopted solar agricultural pumps over the last three years,
resulting in higher levels of farmer satisfaction. MAHAGENCO has produced the
most cost-efficient electricity over the last three years. Maharashtra has
installed 60% of the country’s solar agricultural pumps, and the Central
Government has issued a communication to all States advising them to adopt the
‘Maharashtra Model'. Maharashtra has secured the top position in the country
for rooftop solar installations under the 'PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana'. The
State Government’s decisions regarding the Time of the Day (ToD) meter have
been taken keeping the interests of common consumers in mind. Power
distribution infrastructure works worth Rs. 25,000 crore are being carried out
to bring the Distribution Panel (DP) failure rate to zero percent.”
