New Delhi, 24 June (H.S.): A fresh twist has emerged in the alleged video controversy involving Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader R.P. Singh has claimed that an FIR registered by the Crime Branch of Gurugram Police has uncovered an alleged conspiracy to shield the Chief Minister through the creation of fabricated forensic evidence. Describing the matter as serious, he has demanded Bhagwant Mann’s immediate resignation.
Reacting to the development through a post on X on Wednesday, R.P. Singh stated that FIR No. 0263, registered at the DLF Sector-29 Police Station in Gurugram, invokes provisions related to organised crime, cheating, forgery of electronic records, and various sections of the Information Technology Act.
According to Singh, there was an alleged attempt to influence facts and secure fabricated forensic reports in order to portray the disputed video as a “deepfake.” He further alleged that certain individuals prepared reports in the name of independent cyber and forensic laboratories, while subsequent scrutiny raised questions regarding the legitimacy and credibility of those institutions.
The BJP leader claimed that the entire exercise was aimed at suppressing the truth and influencing public opinion. He asserted that serious doubts have now been raised about the authenticity of the reports that were allegedly used to provide a clean chit to the Chief Minister.
Singh further alleged that the matter extends beyond a mere video controversy and could involve the misuse of government machinery as well as the use of forged documents. He said that if the allegations are ultimately proven, they would constitute a significant blow to democratic institutions and public trust.
Calling for a fair and comprehensive investigation, R.P. Singh urged that the matter be thoroughly examined and demanded that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accept moral responsibility and resign from office pending the outcome of the inquiry.
