
Tarakeswar, 20 June (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the Paschimbanga Divas programme in Tarakeswar, describing the occasion as a celebration of West Bengal's rich heritage, historic legacy and immense contribution to India's growth and nation-building.
Expressing his delight at being in Tarakeswar, the Prime Minister extended his greetings to the people of West Bengal. He said Paschimbanga Divas is an opportunity to honour the state's glorious history, vibrant culture and the invaluable role its people have played in shaping modern India.
PM Modi said the observance of Paschimbanga Divas commemorates the formation of West Bengal and serves as a reminder of the sacrifices and determination of those who safeguarded the state's identity during a crucial chapter in India's history. He stressed that future generations should remain aware of Bengal's historical significance and its enduring contribution to the nation.
The Prime Minister said West Bengal has given India numerous freedom fighters, social reformers, spiritual leaders, scientists, educationists, writers and artists whose contributions continue to inspire the country. He noted that Bengal's traditions of learning, literature, innovation and cultural excellence remain a source of national pride.
Highlighting the Centre's development agenda, PM Modi said the Union Government is committed to accelerating the state's progress through investments in infrastructure, connectivity, railways, highways, ports, digital services and welfare schemes. He said these initiatives are aimed at creating better opportunities for the people and ensuring inclusive development.
Emphasising the importance of youth empowerment, the Prime Minister said education, skill development and employment generation remain key priorities of the government. He said equipping young people with modern skills and opportunities is essential for achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.
PM Modi also underlined the need to preserve West Bengal's rich cultural and spiritual heritage while embracing modern development. He said the state's traditions and values can coexist with economic progress, creating a stronger foundation for future generations.
Calling for collective efforts towards national development, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that the people of West Bengal would continue to play a vital role in India's journey of growth and prosperity. He said the state's talent, resilience and cultural richness would remain among the country's greatest strengths.
